Fluid dynamics is a branch of fluid mechanics. It is focused on studying forces related to fluid movement it has many practical applications, from the fire retardant in fire suppression systems to the food refrigeration transfer fluid in cold storage facilities. All these depend on understanding behavior of fluids
Fluid dynamics has its own set of sub-disciplines. Two well-known sub-disciplines are aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. In the past, hydrodynamics was used interchangeably with fluid dynamics. Progress in the field of fluid mechanics led to more stratified and specific sub-disciplines. Hydrodynamics focuses on liquids while gas dynamics focuses on gases. Aerodynamics deals with the motion of the air and its interaction with solid objects. It is an important part in the designing of airplanes.
Fluid dynamic features a systematic structure on which various practical disciplines rely on. It embraces empirical and semi-empirical laws obtained from flow measurement. These laws are then used to solve practical problems. Solutions to fluid dynamics problem normally involves calculating various properties of the fluid. Some of the properties are flow velocity, pressure, density, and temperature.
Flow velocity is a vector field that mathematically describes the motion of a continuum. Effectively describes everything about the motion of a fluid. Pressure is the force being exerted by the fluid on the surface of the container or pathway. Density is the mass per unit volume of the fluid. Temperature measures the hotness or coldness of the fluid. These properties are all interconnected with each other.
